"Can I have a lizard?", Chrissy asked. "Not another lizard! How about something fuzzy?" I asked. We went through the list of fuzzies, and nothing seemed right. We wanted a small animal with some intelligence and a real personality. Something cuddly and cute. I had seen ferrets at the pet store, so I suggested a ferret. "Eww, they stink and they are ugly!" said Chrissy. So I took her to the pet store to take a real look. As soon as the door to the cage was opened, the sleepy, slinky animals came to life, standing on hind legs to be lifted up. They really wanted attention, they practically begged to be held. They were cute! That was it, we were on the road to find a ferret!
We bought a ferret book and started reading everything on the internet and realized there were shelters with ferrets that needed homes. The rest is history.
We adopted Jenny and Abbot. They are two very distinct personalities in two very different bodies. Abbot is a big, cuddly and cute teddy bear, always willing to be held. He looks up at you with the most wonderful expression that just says, "pick me up and love me". He loves to be hand fed and is a terrible mooch. His hobbies are sleeping and eating, with an occasional hopping, twisting, wrestling match with Jenny. Jenny is a wild-child, always looking for things to do and places to go. She is a real climber! She gets on the chairs, table, climbs gates, scales the Marshall pet playpen. She loves to chase things on strings and dig in the rice box. She is always moving. She's agile, fast and sleek. She's also very soft and we can cuddle her when she's sleeping. Her hobbies are trying to get upstairs and exploration of the deep dark recesses of the couch.
We have recently begun to foster Jenny's sister, Julie. Although she has some heath problems and is very frail, she is so sweet and loves people. When she's feeling good, there is the most exciting three way hopping and wrestling matches. They are all three so different and all three loved.
The shelter has been so helpful with any issues or questions that have come up. It boggles my mind how they can take such good care of so many abandoned and sick fuzzies.
